Letters of Recommendation

  • Each letter must be typed and 250 words or less (1 page).
  • Must include a wet signature by the author.
  • Should validate your achievements, character, skills, and potential.
  • Letters must come from:
    • A friend or family member
    • A school official
    • A community authority

Evaluation Criteria:

Do the letters provide meaningful insight into the applicant’s character, strengths, and potential? Do they reflect the spirit of the scholarship?

Personal Statement Essay

Describe your identity, experiences, values, and purpose. Share your background, interests, and what drives you to be a purpose-driven person.

  • 500 words or less
  • 12-point font, double-spaced
  • Must be uploaded with the full application

Evaluation Criteria:

How clear, authentic, and insightful is the applicant’s personal statement?

Scholarship Essay

Essay Questions (Pick One):
  1. Describe a significant obstacle you faced and how you used SSL tools to overcome it. What did you learn?
  2. Detail a time you took on a leadership role and made a positive impact. Highlight SSL tools you used.
  3. Share a situation where your perspective was challenged. How did you respond and what did you learn?

Evaluation Criteria:

How effectively does the applicant respond to the selected prompt? Does the response demonstrate thoughtful reflection and clear application of the tools taught in Student Self Leadership?

Extra-curricular Activities & Achievements

Share your passions, interests, and community/leadership initiatives:

  • 500 words or less
  • 12-point font, double-spaced
  • Include hobbies, clubs, volunteer work, and skills

Evaluation Criteria:

How clearly does the applicant describe their academic and career goals? Do they demonstrate a strong connection between their journey, purpose, and use of this scholarship?

All documents must be uploaded with the full application. Please review everything carefully to ensure all sections are complete before submitting. Strong applications will demonstrate not just participation, but reflection, growth, and intentional use of the Student Self Leadership principles. The review team will evaluate how well the application demonstrates exceptional effort, clarity of presentation, and the depth and authenticity of the applicant’s responses.
