What does San Diego County include and why is it limited to that region?

Here is a map of San Diego County and zip codes it includes. We plan to make the scholarship more widely available in the future, however right now, working with local partners ensures that we can manage the program more effectively and devote more resources directly to student support.

What is San Diego Foundation and the San Diego Foundation Common Scholarship?

In 2023, San Diego Foundation (SDF) awarded more than $4 million in scholarships to over 1,000 students, making SDF the largest private non-university scholarship provider in San Diego County. Because we are part of their common scholarship, students also get access to more than 100 other scholarships at the same time. Check out the SDF Common Scholarship page for additional details about the process, FAFSA/CA Dream Act, tips for a competitive scholarship application and more. If you have questions directly for SDF, please contact their Scholarships team at (619) 814-1343 or scholarships@sdfoundation.org.

Do scholarship recipients need to choose a post-secondary school in California?

No. Recipients may apply for scholarships to higher education locally and nationally.

How do I get a copy of my Student Self Leadership completion badge?

We issue completion badges through Credly, a third-party. You would have received notice via email shortly after you completed the course from the address admin@credly.com. This PDF will give you step-by-step instructions for downloading it. If you can’t find that email, we can request a new one for you. Just let us know at SSLprogram@blanchardinstitute.org

No. Students are eligible if they are continuing their post-high school education in any capacity, whether through colleges and universities, community colleges, or vocational and technical schools in the United States.

What types of expenses can I use my scholarship award for?

Our scholarship award is redeemable for a variety of educational expenditures including tuition, room and board, books and materials, etc. The scholarship amount is sent directly to the student’s chosen post-high school educational institution. It cannot be redeemed for cash.

How long after completing the course can I apply?

Students who meet the eligibility criteria may apply for the scholarship award at any time after they have earned their Student Self Leadership digital credential. However, eligible students must complete and submit their scholarship application before they begin their first year of post-high school education.

How many times can I apply?

Students may only apply for the scholarship award once.

If my child finished the Student Self Leadership program as a freshman, sophomore, or junior in high school, will they still be able to qualify for the Blanchard Scholarship when they are a senior?

Yes, your student can apply for the Blanchard Scholarship as soon as they begin their senior year of high school or their last year of secondary school.

Can my child apply for the Blanchard Scholarship if they live in or plan to live in a country other than the United States after they graduate?

Unfortunately, no. At this point, we can only offer scholarship awards to students who will be attending post-secondary school within the U.S.
